Fourteen people were injured – two seriously – during a pile-up involving six vehicles in Kwun Tong on Monday.

The accident took place around noon at the crossroads of Lei Yue Mun Road and Tseung Kwan O Road, outside the Kwun Tong Police Station.

Police said a cement mixer truck first hit a taxi waiting at a red light, and then continued to travel towards the junction where it collided with four other vehicles.

The taxi was crushed into roadside railings and was severely damaged. Its driver was once trapped inside its cabin. He and a taxi passenger were seriously injured.

Police said the cement mixer had been travelling downhill along Tseung Kwan O Road, and its braking system was suspected to be failing to work at the time.

The other 12 people received slight injures. They included passengers from the public light bus.

The east-bound lanes of Lei Yue Mun were closed off as police were inspecting the wrecked vehicles at the scene.
