A man was arrested on Wednesday night for allegedly stealing luggage from airport buses.

The 40-year-old local, surnamed Ying, was nabbed after police saw him leaving a vehicle with another passenger’s luggage.

Police said the man was believed to be involved in eight similar incidents that took place in September and October. The total value of the items stolen in these nine cases is estimated to be about HK$174,000.

Some of the items, including clothes and diving equipment, were retrieved from the man’s home in Mong Kok.

“From January to October this year, there have been numerous cases in which luggage was stolen from airport buses. The cases mostly happened on buses leaving from the airport to [the city],” Hong Kong Island crime squad inspector Justin Siu Chi-him said.

Two other men were arrested earlier this month for five similar theft cases.

Police have asked bus passengers to stay vigilant in looking after their belongings.
