Two critical, three in serious condition after major Christmas Day crash leaves dozens of Hongkongers injured

Two people were critically injured and three are in a serious condition after a crash involving a double-decker bus, a minibus and a truck on the San Tin Highway injured 42 people.
Eighteen ambulances were called out in a full-blown Christmas Day emergency as the chain collision left dozens of people trapped on the highway near Yuen Long in the New Territories. The crash happened at about 2.40pm on Sunday.
The seriously injured were stretchered on to ambulances while others sat on the side of the road to receive first aid. More than 60 people were in the vehicles when they collided.
Authorities said two people are now in a critical condition, three are “serious”, 28 are stable and the condition of a further nine is unknown.
Emergency services had their hands full after a Long Win Bus double-decker on the A43 airport route crashed into the back of the truck. The minibus then slammed into the back of the bus.
There were dramatic scenes as firefighters freed injured passengers trapped in the double-decker through the back window by climbing on to the roof of the minibus to get to them.
