One woman dead, another injured after Audi mounts pavement and hits pedestrians

Car knocked down railings and road signs, coming to stop after running into wall

A woman was killed and another injured when a car mounted the pavement and knocked them down in Tsuen Wan shortly before midnight on Monday.

The Audi was running north and up the slope along Wo Yee Hop Road when the male driver, 48, lost control of the vehicle outside North Kwai Chung Jockey Club Swimming Pool, knocking down railings and road signs before running into two pedestrians.

The car did not stop until it hit a wall.

One of the victims, aged 56, was trapped under the wheels. She was later freed by firefighters but was confirmed dead at the scene.

The other victim, aged 44, suffered injuries and was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital.

The driver complained of chest and neck pain and was taken to Yan Chai Hospital. He passed a police breathalyser test.

The New Territories South traffic unit is investigating.
