Cuban television is reporting that Venezuela’s top diplomat exchanged jokes and laughed with President Hugo Chavez after meeting with him in Havana, where the ailing leader is recovering from a fourth cancer surgery.

State television showed Twitter messages sent by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua after meeting with Chavez on Monday.

Jaua tweeted that during the meeting Chavez made decisions about Venezuela’s participation in a Community of Latin American and Caribbean States summit and was “very happy because the Bolivarian dream continues advancing.”

Chavez has not been seen or heard from in public since his operation in Cuba on December 11, and was unable to make his scheduled inauguration for a new term earlier this month.

Officials have not given specific details about the nature of his cancer.
