Teen held over theft of Picasso, Monet artwork

AMSTERDAM - Dutch police arrested a 19-year-old Romanian woman in connection with the audacious theft in October of paintings including a Picasso and a Monet from an art gallery in Rotterdam. The woman was the girlfriend of one of two Romanian men arrested in their home country in January in connection with the robbery, one of the most dramatic in years, in which a total of seven paintings were stolen. Police were put on the trail by combing through security camera footage from the period leading up to the theft, looking for visitors whose behaviour suggested they might be making preparations for a robbery. 94 go on trial in UAE accused of coup plot

ABU DHABI - Ninety-four people have gone on trial in the United Arab Emirates on charges of trying to overthrow the government, the latest in a growing crackdown in the Gulf nation against perceived political or security threats inspired by the Arab Spring uprisings. The road leading to the court in Abu Dhabi was closed, and authorities barred international media and several rights groups from attending. The defendants - unnamed doctors, academics, lawyers and other professionals - have been accused of building a secret network to plot the coup and raising money through real-estate and other deals. Police arrest 3, seize mortars in N Ireland

LONDONDERRY - Police in Northern Ireland seized a van containing four mortars and arrested three men in a security operation that stopped a suspected attack on a police station. About 100 homes in Londonderry were evacuated overnight after police stopped the van as it drove into the city. Police arrested the driver of the van, as well as a man riding a motorcycle behind the vehicle and a third man during a follow-up search. No group claimed responsibility for the alleged plot, but Irish Republican Army splinter groups are known to be active in the predominantly Catholic city. AP
