Tech scene targets Berlin and Google moves in

The IT-giant Google has just announced plans for a new Google Campus in German capital, only the seventh of its kind in the world, serving as a networking hub for start-ups, business founders and experienced IT-industry professionals. Google has campuses in London, Warsaw, Madrid, Sao Paulo, Seoul and Tel Aviv and Berlin is honored to be among the chosen cities.

Berlin: The city of founders

Google’s campus model is designed to support young businesses and create a global network for start-ups, venture capitalists and Google itself. When considering locations for new campuses, Google prioritizes internationality and dynamism. Berlin, which stands for creativity and entrepreneurial spirit is a perfect fit.

It is not the first time Google involved in the German capital. Google has already been active as a funding partner of the start-up campus “Factory Berlin” in Berlin-Mitte for years. With its new campus, the technology giant is now launching a project under its own name. A total of 2,400 square meters will be developed in a former electricity substation in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The new project represents a targeted strengthening of Berlin’s start-up ecosystem. There will be a training centre for company founders offering high-quality training courses and workshops that will enable young entrepreneurs to benefit from Google’s expert knowledge. Above all, Google’s decision once again emphasizes Berlin is the beating heart of Germany’s start-up culture.

Google is not alone in Berlin. SAP is also cooperating with start-ups at numerous locations in Berlin-Mitte. SAP recently opened its “Data Space” at Hackescher Markt, including a “Data Kitchen” to provide a culinary glimpse of the future. The Accelerator program, initiated by SAP, is another facet of the lively tech scene at the heart of the capital devoted to the Internet of Things and B2B products.

Brexit decision could strengthen Berlin’s position

Berlin is bound to be an attractive alternative for companies that move from London to continental Europe. When U.K leaves the EU, it will give up its automatic access to the European market. London could soon be much less attractive for international start-ups. With a population of 3.5 million, Berlin offers an outstanding infrastructure and genuine big city flair, a rich history and immense cultural diversity.

High-skilled immigration creates a virtuous circle for Berlin

Berlin has developed an excellent, international reputation as a vibrant and creative metropolis attracting more and more start-up founders, along with a stream of artists and creatives creating a virtuous, self-sustaining circle. These new Berliners serve as both employers and consumers, feeding the city’s economy and contributing to purchasing power growth across the whole of Berlin.

Experts are confident that the residential real estate market will maintain its growth trajectory throughout this year. The signs are equally positive for the years to come. The pace of growth may not set new records every year, but investors in Germany’s capital can be confident that there is only one direction – onwards and upwards – for the foreseeable future.
