Make Time for the World’s Largest Timepiece Event: The Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair

Time is of the essence at the annual timepiece extravaganza that brings in exhibitors from around the world and all manner of watches from rare timepieces to wearable tech.

A global hub for the watch and clock trade

The 36th edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair kicks off in timely style at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) on September 5 and will run till September 9.  For the five days of the fair, over 820 exhibitors from 24 countries and regions will meet a record number of trade and private buyers from around the world.

Glitz and glamour at Salon de TE

More than just a trade show, the fair shines the spotlight on some of the most revered brands at the glamorous Salon de TE. Located in Hall 3C-E, the Salon de TE is a beacon for watch connoisseurs, showcasing the stunning elegance and artistry of around 150 prestigious watchmakers in five thematic zones.

Those looking for collector’s items should head straight to the World Brand Piazza where limited editions and rare timepieces from 13 renowned brands including Blancpain, Breguet, Chopard, CORUM, DeWitt, FRANCK MULLER, Glashütte Original, Jacob & Co, Jaquet Droz, Juvenia, Montblanc, Piaget and Zenith await.

The Renaissance man, on the other hand, might prefer to visit the Renaissance Moment zone first.  This zone houses classic and elegant brands originated in Europe, including Swiss Eminence featuring the four Swiss brands - Catena, Doxa, Enicar and Sultana.  With Switzerland being the watchmaking capital of the world, the Swiss Independent Watchmaking Pavilion offers watch aficionados a close encounter with four of its independent watchmakers - Adriatica, Anonimo, Mathey-Tissot and Pilo & Co.

The style brigade will find plenty of fashion labels and on-trend pieces to their liking at the Chic & Trendy zone.

Fine craftsmanship lies at the heart of great watches and the Craft Treasure zone offers a fascinating array of the latest functional mechanical watches and jewellery timepieces for fans to choose from.

Those on the cutting edge of time should check out the Wearable Tech zone where branded smart watches offer a taste of the future.

A diverse offering

For those looking for something less exalted, the fair also showcases a diverse range of watches and clocks as well as accessories.  Visit Pageant for Eternity for outstanding complete watches or check out OEM Smart Watches, which returns this year after a strong debut in 2016 to cater for the growing demand of smart watches worldwide. Other product zones to explore include Complete Watches, Clocks, Machinery & Equipment, Packaging, Parts & Components and Trade Services. 

Sharing insights and intelligence

Get the low-down and latest intelligence on the industry by making time for the rich lineup of seminars, buyer forums and various networking events.  A must-attend event is the Hong Kong International Watch Forum (September 5) featuring representatives of major watch associations around the world coming together to discuss the challenges and opportunities in watch manufacturing.

On the following day, September 6, speakers from watch brands and the wearable technology sector will forecast trends in smart movements at the Asian Watch Conference. A seminar to provide an update on the ordinance concerning the use of the Swiss-made label will be of interest to those involved in manufacturing.

Creative exchange

As always, new and creative ideas will be on full display at the Hong Kong Watch and Clock Design Competition, an annual showcase of local designers’ talent.  Winning pieces from the ‘Future Luxury’ competition for students and ‘Luxury Automobile’ competition for the open group will be displayed at the Hall 1 Concourse during the fair to showcase homegrown creativity.
