HKFA appoints two new coaches to boost Hong Kong national teams
Conditioning coach from Leeds United and experienced Japanese sign up
The Hong Kong FA have appointed two new coaches as they look to build on the success enjoyed by the national team in 2015.
Mathew Pears joins from Leeds United as a specialist conditioning coach, and former J.League coach Yusuke Adachi as elite development coach.
Pears, who was first team strength and conditioning coach at Leeds, will be charged with improving the fitness of Hong Kong’s national players at all levels and improving the development of sports sciences at the HKFA.
Adachi has over 20 years’ coaching experience in Japan and will be responsible for improving coaching standards with the HK national teams.
“These appointments demonstrate our determination to enhance the professionalism and competitiveness of Hong Kong football by bringing in expertise from all over the world and transferring these skills to local people,” said HKFA chief executive Mark Sutcliffe.
Both positions were funded by the Jockey Club Charities Trust, which is devoting millions of dollars to football over the next five years.
