NBA superstar Kevin Durant, who last week sealed a US$54 million two-year deal with Golden State Warriors, appeared in Hong Kong at the Nike Rise Academy basketball clinic at Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai on Tuesday night.

Durant, who entered the stadium as a full house of 2,000 spectators cheered his arrival, demonstrated his skills, including spinning the ball on his fingertips, and conducted drills with the 24 youth players taking part in the clinic.

The 27-year-old towered over the youth players who also played a game with him.

He also presented a pair of basketball shoes from a collection named after him to the night’s challenge winner, Jacky Ngai Chi-kit.

The 17-year-old lucky winner said playing with Durant in the challenge was encouraging as the star high-fived him, and he would keep the new kicks as a souvenir of his encounter with the four-time NBA scoring champion and former NBA Most Valuable Player.

He ended the clinic by throwing basketball out to the crowd.

Durant, who conducted no interviews with the press, will stay in Hong Kong for three days and is expected to visit Taiwan on July 15.
