The wait goes on: Jason Hak again falls short of breakthrough win after finishing fourth at PGA Tour China Series event in Beijing

The in-form 22-year-old could only manage a one-under-par final round at the Pingan Bank Open to finish four shots off the pace at Topwin Golf and Country Club

Jason Hak Shun-yat’s wait for a first professional win continued on Sunday after a one-under-final round at the Pingan Bank Open was only good enough for a third consecutive top 10 finish on the PGA Tour China Series.

The in-form 22-year-old held one shot leads after the first three rounds at Topwin Golf and Country Club, but Hak was unable to match final round playing partner Charlie Saxon as the American carded a bogey-free six-under-par 66 to secure a one shot victory over China’s Zhang Xinjun.

Hak did birdie the final hole to claim an outright share of fourth, four shots adrift of Saxon, to add to a tied for eighth place finish at the Yulongwan Yunnan Open and a joint runner-up placing at the NewTown KingRun Open this month.

Hak reached the turn in level par following nine consecutive pars, while Saxon blazed ahead with four birdies in six holes, a run that was bettered by South Korea’s Cho Rak-hyun who picked up six shots in the last seven holes on the front nine.

A dropped shot at the par four 10th all but ended Hak’s challenge, although he quickly responded with back-to-back birdies to slip to under-par for the round.

He handed that gain back at the 15th, but with a chance at victory gone, Hak finished on a high to edge out order of merit leader Dou Zecheng to claim fourth place outright after finishing at 18-under-par overall.
