Katherine Mok scored the overtime winner as Hong Kong earned a place in the diamond division final at the women’s lacrosse World Cup after an “absolutely incredible” 5-4 win over Switzerland in England on Thursday.

Fan Tak-kwan equalised for Travis Taylor’s Hong Kong with less than two minutes remaining in regulation time at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford after Katherine Barker earlier scored twice, while Alex Tsai was also on target.

Hong Kong’s third consecutive win and fourth overall in seven games earns Taylor’ s side a meeting with Latvia in the 17th place play-off final at the 25-team tournament on Friday.

Four years ago in Canada, Hong Kong finished 18th out of 19 teams after twice beating Sweden.

“The game was never more than a goal away for either team, it was a very defensive battle. Incredible fan support gave us a lot of energy towards the end of the game and into overtime,” said Hong Kong coach Taylor.
