HK 6s to trial first international 5s format

The HKFC Hockey 6s will trial the first international 5s competition this month with the format likely to be introduced at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing next year. The 5s format is seen as a key element for the sport's future development and growth due to greater accessibility of short-form hockey for youth and the ability to play it on non-regulation pitches. Players from the four international teams (Australia, Great Britain, Holland and the Asian Barbarians) in the HKFC Hockey 6s (March 28-30) will be split into four five-a-side teams to compete in the exhibition. "It is a great opportunity for us to introduce the format to Hong Kong and Asia, particularly ahead of the Youth Games next year in Nanjing. ," said organising committee chairman Patrick Watts. Rangers keep titles after investigation

Fallen Scottish giants Rangers have escaped being stripped of five of their world-record 54 league titles following a long-running investigation into the football club's undisclosed payments to players from 2000 to 2011. However, the company that owned the Glasgow club before it went into administration last year was fined £250,000 (HK$2.9 million). An independent commission appointed by the Scottish Premier League found the company, or "Oldco" Rangers, guilty of failing to make proper disclosure of "side-letter arrangements" between 2000 and 2011, but ruled they "did not gain any unfair competitive advantage". Rangers manager Ally McCoist said: "Our fans will take great heart from this." AFP
