Sevens and ‘Mission Possible’ team up to tackle poverty

The Hong Kong Rugby Football Union has once again teamed up with the Peter Bennett Foundation and other sponsors to help raise funds and awareness for “Mission Possible” – the campaign that combats Hong Kong social issues relating to the young, elderly and food availability.

As part of its “Mission Possible” effort at last year’s Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, the HKRFU provided a 76-seat corporate box to the Peter Bennett Foundation which then sought sponsorship, sold box seats and gathered materials for auction over Sevens weekend.

With the support of Holiday Inn and Links Concepts, the “Mission Possible” campaign raised nearly HK$3 million for four local charities. This year will see a similar effort from the HKRFU and all funds raised will be distributed to Po Leung Kuk Scholarship Foundation, the Society for Community Organisation, Crossroads, and the Changing Young Lives Foundation.

“By supporting ‘Mission Possible’, sponsors and patrons are making a great sporting and entertainment event even better – making the Sevens more relevant to the broader community while helping those less fortunate,” said HKRFU chairman Trevor Gregory.

This year’s “Mission Possible” box at the Sevens – which takes place March 28-30 – will have a Queen of Hearts theme. On Saturday morning of event weekend, the box will host a party for a group of children from one of the four charities, and will also be visited by prominent guests and members of the Hong Kong men’s sevens team.
