Hong Kong will defend their Asian School Rugby Sevens Championship against nine other sides over two days at King’s Park this weekend.

Hong Kong were victorious on home soil in the inaugural tournament in 2013 and have drawn Singapore, Guam, China and debutants India in pool A.

Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and first-timers Mongolia and Sri Lanka make up pool B in a tournament HKRU head of community and development Brandon Huang hopes will play a key role in the development of youth rugby.

“Rugby is one of Asia’s fastest growing sports and, thanks to the work of the Hong Kong School Sports Federation and the support of Societe Generale and the Home Affairs Bureau, we are helping take another significant step forward with regards to school rugby development,” he said.

“I believe it’s going to be a memorable weekend for all participants and with rugby sevens making its debut in the Rio Olympics later in the summer I’m sure there will be lots of interest and excitement around this event.”
