Hong Kong-born entrepreneur Gordon Yuen Tien-yau was educated here and in Canada. While still a student, he established his own Chinese catering operation, specialising in functions for political organisations. After graduation, he returned to Hong Kong and worked in a series of positions, mostly in the financial sector, and for several years oversaw the corporate side of KFC's Asian business. He later became involved in the dry cleaner Jeeves, and took over the chairmanship of his family's company, A&A Retail Management, which sells high-end cameras and other audio-visual equipment. In 2006, he suffered a stroke and, in 2008, on his doctor's advice, he retired from corporate life to focus on A&A and to develop beverage-related businesses, including a whisky bar in Manila and a wine importing company, Perfect Vintage, which is active in Hong Kong and Macau.

Its ample outdoor terrace is the obvious strong point of this otherwise typical Lan Kwai Fong lounge bar in a nondescript commercial building. We were the sole customers at 11.30pm despite it being ladies' night. But the bar soon started to fill up and, by 12.30am, the dance floor was packed and the terrace became a welcome respite from the expatriate crush. It's impossible to tell whether the crowds last Thursday were typical or boosted by the weekly Hong Kong pub crawl.
