Christmas performances in Hong Kong offer easy way to get into the festive spirit

The halls have been decked with holly and the only thing left is to go out and be jolly. It’s easy to get into the festive spirit this winter, thanks to several first-class performances that will entertain all the family. There’s definitely something for everyone.

The 15th Classics for Kids Christmas Concert

The Kids Christmas Concert by the SAR Philharmonic Charitable Foundation is an interactive classical music concert that makes for a wholesome day out with the youngsters. Children can listen to top-notch classical music and learn about their favourite instruments. Performances run at the Jockey Club Amphitheatre at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts on December 4 and 11. Tickets cost HK$295 from HK Ticketing.

The Wonderful World of Disney on Ice

Get into the holiday spirit with help from the House of Mouse. Mickey and the gang present 90 minutes of good old fun with appearances from all your favourite characters from hit Disney movies Finding Dory, Frozen, The Lion King, Tangled, Aladdin, Snow White and Toy Story. Performances run at the Convention and Exhibition Centre from December 8-11. Tickets cost HK$680 (VIP), HK$480, HK$380 and HK$280, from HK Ticketing.

 

The Snowman and the Bear

The Snowman and The Bear, two beloved animation films based on the books by Richard Briggs, are brought to life with music by The City Chamber Orchestra. Performances are at Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium on December 11, and the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall on December 23 and 24. Tickets cost HK$380, HK$280, HK$180, and HK$120.

The Nutcracker

Our favourite Christmas ballet returns. Set to Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, this beloved tale of Clara and her brave nutcracker soldier is not to be missed. There are 13 shows at the Grand Theatre in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from December 16-18 and 20-25. Tickets cost $1,000 (VIP) HK$680, H$480, HK$320 and HK$180, from Urbtix.

King Arthur

A night of knights and chivalry from Camelot is recreated by the Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection as King Arthur confronts Morgana le Fey, meets Guinevere and forms a friendship with Lancelot as the classic story is reworked. Fun workshop activities will be held in the foyer. Performances are at the Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre Theatre on December 17 and 18. Tickets cost HK$230 (including post-show stage tour), HK$200 and H$150 from Urbtix.

A Magical Christmas

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra offers fun with the whole family, complete with a singalong, and a magic show by Harry Wong. At the end of each performance, snowflakes falling gently from the ceiling will surprise the audience. Shows are at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall on December 23 and 24.
