Tony Cruz-trained Willie Cazals is out of tomorrow’s Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse at Sha Tin after failing to recover to the trainer’s satisfaction from a swimming pool mishap this week.

Cruz said on Friday that Willie Cazals had bumped his left front tendon and missed two days’ work but was expected to take his place on Sunday. However, he has had to change course after the stayer was still feeling the knock this morning.

“It’s not a serious injury, to my eye, just some bruising and it’s one of those stupid things because he didn’t do it in a gallop or a canter. He did it in the swimming pool,” Cruz said.

“Somewhere he’s whacked his leg against the pool and he’s still a bit sore on it today so the only thing to do is pull him out.”

Cruz said he was hopeful the injury would not impact on Willie Cazals’ pursuit of the Longines Hong Kong Vase in just over a month.

“We’ll give him an ultrasound on Monday and the injury could even be gone by then, that’s the kind of thing it is,” said Cruz. “It’s bad timing but if I ran him on Sunday that would run the risk of making it worse and then he might have a real problem.”
