Misfortune-prone four-year-old Mizani bled after a barrier trial at Sha Tin on Tuesday morning and is out of the HK$22 million Longines Hong Kong Cup on Sunday week.

The Richard Gibson-trained grey missed the Derby earlier this year with a race-eve stone bruise to his right front foot, almost missed the Ladies’ Purse recently after a nail prick to the same foot, then recovered in time to run but pulled up sore in his left front leg afterwards.

With Tuesday's bleed after a fast-finishing fifth in the all-weather trial, Mizani incurs an automatic three-month ban from racing so the Hong Kong Cup field is now down to 12 runners.
