World champion Manny Pacquiao set for blockbuster Amir Khan UK clash in May

British media claims the announcement of the Filipino’s next fight against his former sparring partner to be staged in the UK is imminent

Reports in British media claim the announcement of Manny Pacquiao’s next fight against former sparring partner Amir Khan to be staged in the UK on May 20 is imminent.

The Times reports a deal has been verbally agreed for the two to meet in what would be the highest-profile bout to be staged in Britain for years.

Manchester and Khan’s hometown of Bolton in the northwest of England have been lined up as potential venues to host the fight.

Another option for Pacquiao’s next bout was thought to be the United Arab Emirates with the 38-year-old Filipino world champion saying he would like to fight around the world before finally hanging up his gloves.

Last week, the WBO welterweight champion Pacquiao posted a poll on his Twitter feed asking his fans to determine who he should fight in his next match. Khan came out on top of the poll with fellow Britain Kell Brook in second.
Khan hasn’t fought since a crushing defeat to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in May last year after an ill-fated step up to middleweight.

Pacquiao’s last bout was his impressive win over Jessie Vargas in Las Vegas in November.
