Beijing Guoan ground out a 0-0 draw with Pohang Steelers in South Korea in group G of the AFC Champions League last night, leaving new coach Alexsandar Stanojevic a relieved man.

The game was the first competitive fixture for former Dalian Aerbin coach Stanojevic, who replaced Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco at the end of last season and who was making his first appearance as a coach in the continental championship.

"Pohang were determined to deprive of us of points and, even though there was a lot of pressure on the game, my team fought hard and endeavored to represent Chinese football," said Stanojevic.

"We made many chances and also Pohang threatened our goal several times too, but both teams shared the points, which was a fair result. We have started with a tough away game and I think we are on the right track."

Former Guangzhou Evergrande striker Cleo, meanwhile, scored for his new club, J.League side Kashiwa Reysol, as they handed tournament debutants Guizhou Renhe a 1-0 defeat in Guiyang.

Cleo, who scored four times for Guangzhou in last year's AFC Champions League before losing his place in the squad after the signing of Paraguayan Lucas Barrios from Borussia Dortmund, headed home from close range in first half injury time to give Japan's Emperor's Cup winners the three points.
