Bang goes the transfer record, again: Shanghai SIPG smash Chinese mark to sign Hulk from Zenit St Petersburg, say reports

Big-spending Chinese Super League outfit break the Chinese transfer record after splashing a reported 55 million on Brazilian international

Big-spending Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai SIPG have broken the Chinese record transfer mark after splashing a reported 55 million (HK$473.5 million) on Brazilian international striker Hulk.

The 30-year-old is reported to be arriving in Shanghai on Wednesday morning to formally complete the move.

Rumours had been swirling for days that the powerful forward would be the first high-profile signing of the Chinese transfer window, and various sources are now reporting that the transfer is set to be confirmed.

The signing raises questions about the future of misfiring Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan who was signed in July last year and has managed just three goals in a stop-start CSL campaign.

Shanghai SIPG currently sit fourth in the domestic league, but are in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League.

Swedish manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is reported to be under pressure to improve results after the club slipped 10 points behind league leaders Guangzhou Evergrande.
