Italy made no mistake with a 3-0 win over Turkey to finish top of the group in the FIVB women’s volleyball World Grand Prix Macau leg but it was China captain Zhu Ting who stole the limelight.

The mainlander, reputedly the world’s highest paid volleyball player with an annual salary of HK$12 million, did not let her army fans down as China beat the United States in five sets to finish second in their group.

Zhu, who scored 19 points, second best only behind teammate Yuan Xinyue’s 21, and she was also voted by the fans as the Galaxy Most Popular Player of the tournament.

China’s only volleyball player abroad earns a whopping HK$12 million a year in Turkey

“We attacked well today and our blocking has significantly improved compared to last week’s match in Kunshan,” said Zhu, who plays in the Turkish professional league for Vakıfbank Istanbul.

“I think this is a good all-round performance from our team.”

China, who were beaten by the United States at home last week, will move to the Hong Kong leg this week, where they will face the challenge of Serbia, Russia and Japan at the Coliseum in Hung Hom.
