Golfing warriors ready for the battle
Some of the world's top golfers got into the promotional spirit for the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament by donning traditional Chinese warrior costumes in a photo opportunity on the Bund in Shanghai on Tuesday.
Defending tournament champion Ian Poulter of England was joined by Jason Dufner of the US, Justin Rose of England, Phil Mickelson of the US and Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland for the get-together ahead of the US$8.5 million tournament, which starts on Thursday.
The tournament is co-sanctioned by the US PGA, European and Asian Tours and features a star-studded field of 78, including Race to Dubai leader and world number four Henrik Stenson of Sweden.
Other stars playing are four-time major winner Ernie Els and young sensations Jordan Spieth of the US and Italy's Matteo Manassero.
Leading the Asian challenge is Thai veteran Thongchai Jaidee, who is sixth in the Race to Dubai standings.
The most notable absentee is world number one Tiger Woods, who has skipped the event despite being in Asia currently.
