South Korea’s So Yeon-ryu takes over as women's number one
Victory in the Nortwest Arkansas Championship sees 26-year-old replaces Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn
Two-time major champion So Yeon-ryu of South Korea has a new title — numebr one in the world.
Ryu became the third player this year to rise to number one in the women’s world golf ranking with her victory in the Nortwest Arkansas Championship. The 26-year-old from South Korea replaces Ariya Jutanugarn, who held the top ranking for two weeks.
Jutanugarn had replaced Lydia Ko.
Ryu won for the second time this year on the LPGA Tour, adding to her title in the first major at the ANA Inspiration when she beat Lexi Thompson in a play-off. Ryu also won the US Women’s Open in 2011 for her first victory on American soil.
She is the third South Korean native to be number one, joining Park In-bee and Shin Jiyai.
