All the captains of industry were put to shame by Jennifer Harvey, who won the Leaders Cup race. "I'm not used to being chased by so many men," laughed Harvey, 44, after winning the fun run, an easy 1.8-kilometre loop from Wan Chai Sports Ground to Victoria Park. "I put it down to girl power. But I'm just a recreational runner, nothing too serious," added Harvey, who is director of sustainability with relocation giants Crown Worldwide. An American who was born in Japan and grew up in Hong Kong, she easily outpaced the field, which included Standard Chartered Bank chief executive Benjamin Hung Pi-cheng. A total of 50 people entered the race. "I have been running since I was a teenager. And I hope I will still be running when I'm the age of my dad who finished 12th in this race. He is 73 and very fit," Harvey said. Her father, John Thompson, is the chairman of Crown Worldwide. Father and daughter showed in deeds that their company can certainly move fast. "What can I say, being beaten by a lady," laughed Hung, who finished around 20th in a race that raised funds for the bank's "Seeing is Believing" charity, a global programme to help eliminate avoidable blindness in greater China and in other developing countries. Junior ace Jeffrey Tang Ho-fai produced a record-breaking time to win the 10km junior title and also put his name among the leading men. Tang, 18, who is part of the Hong Kong triathlon team and trains at the Hong Kong Sports Institute on a full-time basis, clocked 32 minutes and 39 seconds, which not only earned him the junior title but also ranked him third overall behind Australian Clinton Mackevicius and defending champion Chan Ka-ho. "I really want to thank my triathlon Hong Kong team head coach Patrick Kelly for allowing me to join this race. Originally, all five full-time triathletes in the squad were supposed to fly to Brisbane for a four-week training camp last Monday," said Tang."It took a lot of effort to persuade my coach and I told him how important this race would be to me. Eventually he let me and my teammate, Ivan Lo Ching-hin, delay our trip and run in the race," said Tang, who was to fly to Australia last night to join the squad. He beat the Hong Kong junior record set by Li Wang-chun in 2004 of 33:13."I feel so comfortable when running. And when I was on the flyover connecting the Island Eastern Corridor and Gloucester Road, I saw I was about four minutes ahead of the junior record. So I accelerated and ran the remaining distance at full speed," said Tang. Perry Wong and Alfred Chan Hon-man finished second and third, respectively. Kevin Kung
