Being able to entertain clients at the Sevens is a way of saying you have arrived. The escalators that spirit people to the upper-deck concourse is the stairway to rugby heaven and although there are 112 corporate boxes and 50 executive suites, there are also more than 254 companies on the waiting list. Testimony to the fact they are so popular, at the Sevens Long Lunch in November, one of the lower-deck boxes with 24 seats was auctioned off for HK$410,000.

Some companies don't have the budget or the need for a whole box. This year, the HKRFU has introduced a new shared hospitality area in the Sportsman's Bar on the north-western corner of the executive level.

The 9,000 sq ft space offers just the right balance, says Steelcase Asia managing director Jason Taper. "This space ticked all the boxes for us and caters to the needs of SMEs who want to entertain clients and can't justify the spend or need for an entire box. For us this new hospitality experience is not about closing the deal, it's about relationship building."
