Manchester City to face league rivals in Soccer Sevens
Manchester City will find Sunderland barring the way when they make their debut in next month's HKFC Citibank International Soccer Sevens.
City, one of four top seeds in the main section of the May 24-26 tournament, were drawn against their Premier League rivals in group A yesterday.
Defending champions Newcastle United will face Leicester City in group B while Scotland's Rangers will need to overcome Hong Kong's soon-to-be-decided champions, most likely South China, in group C.
Aston Villa, five-times winners, will be favourites to top group D but will need to overcome two Hong Kong First Division clubs.
"It promises to be another thrilling tournament," said Tony Bratsanos, the event's chairman.
"The top four seeds - City, Newcastle, Rangers and Villa - are all renowned for their excellent academies and they will be sending outstanding young footballers to compete here."
In the masters event, defending champions Ajax All-Stars have been drawn in the same pool as the Rangers All-Star team. The main event features academy players from top teams, while the masters section features players aged 35 and over.
