Eight-strong Hong Kong karatedo squad for Asian Games
An eight-member Hong Kong karatedo squad will compete at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
Six athletes will be involved in the kumite (sparring) and two for the kata (patterns of moves) at the Games in early October.
At least five of the athletes have won a medal at the Asian Championships (AKF senior and junior championships).
“We are eying winning three medals, one more than we achieved four years ago. This is our strongest line-up ever for the Asian Games,” said head coach Kwong Kwan-ming.
“Chris Cheng Tsz-man, Jimmy Lee Ka-wai and Margo Ma [Man-sum] are our medal hopes.”
Kata athletes from the squad will soon be sent to Japan and kumite athletes to Iran for three-week training sessions.
