World number one Nicol David put on a master class to knock out Joey Chan Ho-ling in the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open and underline how hard it will be for the rest of Asia to break her gold medal dominance at the Asian Games next month.
David breezed to a 11-8, 11-4, 11-3 victory over Chan to make clear her intentions of not only defending her Hong Kong title for a record 10th successive year but also her Games gold.
"Right now all I'm thinking about is winning in Hong Kong again but of course it is always good to record a win over a fellow Asian with the Asian Games coming up," David said.
Chan, Hong Kong's last hope at the Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong Open, had been hoping to gain some confidence before the Asian Games.
She was just too good for me. I was quite happy with how I played in the first game but then she just stepped it up
But Malaysian David, 31, stormed into the semi-finals with an exhibition of power, pace and precision which left the partisan crowd at the Hong Kong Squash Centre gasping in awe.
