'Big Bash' team Hobart Hurricanes to provide Hong Kong with litmus test
Coach Charlie Burke says it is first time men's and women's squads have travelled together for training trip
The Hong Kong men's and women's teams for the Asian Games will leave on a nine-day training trip to Sri Lanka on Thursday where they will encounter top-class opposition, including Australian "Big Bash" Twenty20 outfit Hobart Hurricanes.
Irfan Ahmed and his teammates not only get the opportunity to hone their game before their medal campaign in Incheon this month, but also to press individual claims for a place in the Big Bash, said Hong Kong director of cricket Charlie Burke.
The Hurricanes are one of the best teams in the Big Bash and they will provide tough opposition
"This is a wonderful opportunity for the likes of Irfan. We will be playing two matches against Hobart Hurricanes and if he can perform and impress them, I'm sure there will be an opening for him," said Burke.
"The Hurricanes are one of the best teams in the Big Bash and they will provide tough opposition.
"This is the first time both the men and women have gone on tour together and I cannot understate how important this trip is as we look at wrapping up our preparations for the Asian Games."
