Mixed day for Hong Kong paddlers in Bangkok

Hong Kong suffered mixed results in the men’s singles at World Table Tennis Tour Grand Finals in Bangkok on Friday.

While Tang Peng advanced to the second round after a 4-2 win (8-11, 11-5, 9-11, 13-11, 11-8, 11-8) over Paul Drinkhall of England, Wong Chun-ting was eliminated by Marcos Freitas of Portugal who won the match after four close games12-10,14-12,11-8,11-6.

But Tang and Wong will try to make amends in today’s doubles when they take on Kenta Matsudaira and Koki Niwa of Japan for a place in the final.

The Japanese dup pulled off a big surprise in the previous round when they ousted reigning world champions Chen Chien-An and Chuang Chih-Yuan of Taiwan in four straight games.
