Hong Kong badminton aces Li Chun-hei and Chau Hoi-wah gain revenge over mainland pair in Canada Open
Badminton mixed doubles second seeds Reginald Li Chun-hei and Chau Hoi-wah enjoyed sweet revenge over mainlanders Huang Kaixiang and Huang Dongping with the Hong Kong pair winning a thrilling three-setter at the Canada Open on Thursday.
Li and Chau won the tough second-round tie 20-22, 22-20, 21-19 to book a place in the quarter-finals, where they will meet qualifiers Yang Lee and Wu Fang-chien of Taiwan.
Last week in the US Open final in New York, the two Huangs claimed a two-set win over the Li and Chau.
In the men’s singles on Thursday, Ng Ka-long overcame Joachim Persson of Denmark 22-20, 21-14 to set up a daunting match against Hsu Jen Hao, the third seed from Taiwan, in the quarter-finals, while women’s doubles pair Tse Ying-suet and Poon Lok-yan also made it to the last eight, along with fellow teammates Chan Tsz-ka and Yuen Sin-ying.
