Hong Kong golfer Tiffany Chan one step away from joining professional ranks
The 23-year-old is among 80 to have reached the final hurdle of LPGA Tour qualification school
Hong Kong’s Tiffany Chan Tsz-ching is one step away from joining golf’s professional ranks after successfully making it to the final qualification tournament.
The 23-year-old from Tuen Mun, who represented HK at the Rio Olympics, finished tied 24th in the second stage of the gruelling three-part qualification process, with the top 80 going ahead to the final showdown at the end of next month.
A possible huge boost for Chan’s hopes of finishing among the top 20 finishers from Stage III who win LPGA Tour cards is that the final tournament takes place at the LPGA International course at Daytona Beach, Florida.
Chan knows the course like the back of her hand as she spent two years playing it on an almost weekly basis at her junior college.
“She was really tired going into Stage I as we just returned from Rio,” said coach Brad Schadewitz.
“But she felt pretty good in Stage II and said she is getting her game back.
“I like her chances in Stage III. She is playing at her home course when she played at Daytona State.”
Chan is in the final year of a Communications degree at the University of Southern California, but is ready to put that on the back burner if she wins a golden ticket to the pro ranks.
“If I’m playing well and make it I’ll turn pro, if not I’ll stay at USC and finish my last half year, so both ways is a good plan.”
