The 39-year-old Fu will now meet England’s Mark King in the last eight. King dumped out the third seeded Ali Carter 4-3 in a nail-biting encounter to book his place in the quarters.

King edged past fellow Essex-native Carter on the final black of the match.

China’s Ding Junhui was eliminated by England’s Shaun Murphy 4-3, and Ryan Day beat Michael White in an all-Wales match-up.
