Marco Fu’s World Grand Prix run ended in semi-finals by gritty Ryan Day
Hong Kong player out at the semi-final stage in Preston after losing a close encounter 6-4 against Welshman
Marco Fu Ka-chun’s run at the World Grand Prix in Preston was ended at the semi-final stage in Preston on Saturday when the Hong Kong man lost a close encounter 6-4 against Wales’ Ryan Day.
Day booked his place in the final, where he will meet Barry Hawkins, after overcoming a 4-2 deficit to steal the match. The 36-year-old Day took the last four frames in a row to seal his passage.
Fu registered two century breaks and three others over 50 in the match, but struggled to find his rhythm as a determined Day saw the match out.
Fu’s attention now switches to the Welsh Open which begins next week with a first round meeting against England’s Martin Gould in Cardiff.
