Forget Leo Messi, did Diego Forlan score the best free-kick of the season with his first Kitchee goal?

Uruguayan striker bags a brace for Kitchee as they romp to 7-0 Hong Kong Premier League win against BC Rangers

Former Uruguay international striker Diego Forlan broke his duck for Hong Kong Premier League side Kitchee on Sunday – and he did it in some style.

Forlan arrowed a 35-yard free kick into the top corner of Wong Tse-yeung’s goal leaving the keeper with no chance.

The wonder strike has since gone viral on social media

The former European Golden Boot winner opened the scoring before adding his side’s fourth as they cruised to a 7-0 win over BC Rangers.

The star of the 2010 World Cup had not got on the scoresheet in his previous two games, an 8-1 win over Eastern and a cameo from the bench in a 2-2 draw with Southern.

But when his first goal did come, it was well worth the wait.

The hitman later came close to a hat-trick with another free kick.

Forlan was signed by Kitchee to spearhead their debut AFC Champions League campaign which kicks off next month.

The Hong Kong side will find out their opponents for their continental bow after the play-offs tomorrow night with the winners of the game between Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian and Philippine side Ceres Negros set to host Kitchee for the opening group game on February 6.

The remaining spot in group E will be taken by either J-League side Kashiwa Reysol and Thai side Muangthong United.

Kitchee’s next game, their last before the Champions League, is against Warriors on February 3.
