An assistant groundskeeper for the Cleveland Browns was found dead after apparently hanging himself at the team's practice facility, in what may be the latest in a series of suicides involving the NFL.

Eric Eucker was found hanged in a maintenance shed, NFL.com reported, quoting the Cuyahoga County medical officials. The Browns confirmed the death.

"This is a terrible tragedy and our heartfelt condolences go out to Eric's family. Eric was a good friend and colleague, and an outstanding employee. He will be missed by everyone in the Cleveland Browns organisation," the team said.

Eucker's body was discovered on Saturday, the same day Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher committed suicide after killing his girlfriend. Belcher's suicide followed a recent string of former NFL players who have taken their own lives, including Junior Seau in May, Ray Easterling in April and Dave Duerson last year.
