Spain's Anti-Doping Agency (AEA) says the mixing of two urine samples led to its laboratory being suspended for three months by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada). AEA director Ana Munoz said that in August "one urine sample was contaminated by a sample from a different athlete that contained a high concentration of a banned substance", according to a statement, which added that the laboratory's head of quality control had resigned. The blow comes weeks before Madrid must submit its final bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games. AP
South China scored three goals inside 20 minutes to earn an emphatic 3-0 victory over Sun Pegasus yesterday in the RedMR First Division. Former England striker Emile Heskey scored his sixth goal of the A-League season as the Newcastle Jets bounced back from a losing run to beat struggling Sydney FC 2-1. Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff inaugurated the second stadium designated to stage 2014 World Cup matches. The Mineirao venue at Belo Horizonte, which has undergone a US$1.75 billion renovation, was given the presidential seal of approval five days after the first arena at Fortaleza. "Brazilians are showing the world we are good both on and off the pitch," said Rousseff. Both grounds will host Confederations Cup matches next year. AFP
