Wozniacki fuels talk of McIlroy engagement

Tennis star Caroline Wozniacki fuelled speculation she was engaged to golf's world number one Rory McIlroy yesterday when she appeared wearing a large ring on her left hand. The blonde Dane, who has been an increasingly cosy item with McIlroy in recent months, was snapped wearing the jewellery on her left ring finger ahead of the Brisbane International. However, Danish women often wear wedding rings on their right hand, and Wozniacki is also known for her penchant for practical jokes. Earlier this month she donned padding to mimic Serena Williams at an exhibition event, and at the 2011 Australian Open she made up a story about being attacked by a kangaroo. AFP

Beckham weighing up 'serious proposals'

David Beckham insists he has no intention of rushing into his next move. Beckham left LA Galaxy earlier this month and has been linked with QPR in England and Monaco in France, as well as teams from China and Australia. A spokesman for Beckham said: "There are a number of serious proposals on the table from a host of clubs across the world. David is in no hurry to make a decision. The key is making the right one as he has always done successfully in his career. It's early days in the process. David is enjoying spending quality time with his family over the holidays." AFP

Chelsea keeper Petr Cech salutes Benitez

Chelsea have refound their defensive strength under interim manager Rafael Benitez, goalkeeper Petr Cech said yesterday. Chelsea have won their last three Premier League matches and kept four clean sheets since Benitez took over last month. "We look more organised. We were conceding far too many goals and we were too open," Cech said. "We've been defending much better as a team and that's been the key because we weren't defending well. We are back to being difficult to score against, which is a big help, and of course we have quality players who can score goals." Cech will make his 400th appearance for Chelsea against Everton tomorrow. Reuters
