Jia Zongyang of China won his second men's aerials title in two days and teammate Yu Yang took the women's competition at a World Cup freestyle meet in Lake Placid. Jia, who leads the men's aerials World Cup standings, won with a score of 115.38 points. Yu was the lone skier who landed her jump in the women's final round, with the other three finalists falling on a day that saw temperatures rise, which made the snow on the landing hill heavier and wetter as the competition progressed. Gennady Golovkin battered gutsy Gabriel Rosado on the way to a seventh-round technical knockout to remain unbeaten and retain his World Boxing Association middleweight world title in New York. Kazakhstan's Golovkin, who lives in Germany and was fighting in the United States for the second time, poured on the pressure from the opening bell until Rosado's corner threw in the towel and referee Steve Smoger officially stopped the bout at 2:46 of the seventh. The hard-punching middleweight improved to 25-0 with 22 victories inside the distance. AFP
Hall of Famer Stan Musial, one of baseball's greatest hitters and a St Louis Cardinals icon, has died at the age of 92. "We have lost the most beloved member of the our family," Cardinals chairman William DeWitt Jnr said. "Stan was the greatest player in Cardinals history and one of the best players in the history of baseball." Nicknamed "Stan the Man", Musial played his entire 22-year Major League Baseball career with the Cardinals. He was a 24-time All-Star and a first-ballot Hall of Fame selection in 1969. AFP
