A typically belligerent stand between Azhar Ali and Misbah-ul-Haq in a frenetic third day hauled Pakistan back into the second cricket test after South Africa had owned the majority of the day at Newlands in Cape Town. The pair took Pakistan to stumps on 100 for three, which represented an overall lead of 112 after South Africa extended their first innings to 326 all out with some aggressive batting from the lower order. Misbah was unbeaten on 36, while Ali was fortunate to be 45 not out after surviving two scares after tea. AP

Fullback Jesse Mogg scored two tries and kicked two penalties as the ACT Brumbies claimed an emphatic 24-6 win over the Queensland Reds in their opening match of the Super 15 season yesterday. The Brumbies defence, led by David Pocock, shut down Quade Cooper and the Reds. Scrumhalf Nic White played a leading role, setting up a try and kicking two long-range penalties to keep the Brumbies out of reach. The president of the International Wrestling Federation (Fila) has quit in the wake of the International Olympic Committee's decision to remove the sport from the 2020 Games. Raphael Martinetti's resignation was announced at a Fila meeting in Phuket. He had been in the position since 2002. On Tuesday, the executive board of the IOC dumped wrestling from the list of sports guaranteed a berth in at the 2020 Games, meaning it must compete with other fringe sports for a place. AP
