Brazil's Edu to join Liaoning from Schalke
Schalke's Brazilian midfielder Edu has agreed to move to mainland club Liaoning Whowin with immediate effect, the German outfit announced. "This was in response to a desire expressed by Edu that he wanted a change," said Schalke sporting director Horst Held. Edu, 31, signed for Schalke in January 2010 having played in South Korea with Suwon Bluewings. He was a German Cup winner in 2011 and also scored twice in the 5-2 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League quarter-finals. AFP
Ma Qinghua signs up as reserve F1 driver
China's Ma Qinghua will be a Caterham reserve driver this season, the Formula One team said yesterday. Shanghai-born Ma, a development driver with now-defunct Spanish outfit HRT last year, will attend all the grands prix and also compete for Caterham Racing in the GP2 support series. He will also take part in the first Friday free practice session at next month's Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai. Ma, 25, featured in four F1 practice sessions last year, becoming the first China-born driver to take part in a grand prix weekend. Reuters
Cyclist Ricco loses dope-ban appeal
Italian cyclist Riccardo Ricco has lost his appeal against a 12-year ban imposed after attempting a blood transfusion at his home. The Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed Ricco's appeal against a ruling by the Italian Olympic Committee anti-doping tribunal. Ricco was previously banned for doping at the 2008 Tour de France. Struggling Sun Pegasus eased their relegation worries when they trounced Tuen Mun 4-0 in a RedMR First Division match at Yuen Long Stadium last night.
