Please make it stop: Englishman with similar name to Sun Yang’s Aussie rival is bombarded by trolls on Twitter

Mark Horton – not Mack – pleads with swimmer to apologise to Chinese rival so he can get some peace and quiet

Please stop – I’m a bloke from Watford, not an Australian swimmer.

That was the plea from Mark Horton on Twitter after fans of Sun Yang bombarded him with abuse.

China’s Sun was beaten by Australian MACK Horton at the Rio Olympics – and the pair have been embroiled in a war of words, with the Aussie slamming Sun for being a dope cheat.

Sun’s fans were quick to rush to the support of their man. Maybe a bit too quick for poor Mark.

The Englishman, claimed he had had over 200,000 mentions on Twitter over the last two days – and at least 20 interview requests from the world’s media after his tweet begging Sun’s army to lay off went viral.

Mark, whose Twitter handle is @_markhorton, pleaded with swimmer Mack – @_mackhorton – to apologise to Sun so he could get some peace and quiet.
