Hong Kong International Races - join SCMP Racing Post on Twitter
Welcome to scmpRacingPost's live account of the Hong Kong International Races from Sha Tin, where the best local horses aim to hold off the might of the world in the four features - the Hong Kong Sprint (1,200m), Hong Kong Mile (1,600m), Hong Kong Cup (2,000m) and Hong Kong Vase (2,400m).
The Vase features Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and Breeders' Cup Turf runner-up Flintshire, who looks a clear standout on form, but he faces opposition from his owner mate Snow Sky, as well as locals Dominant, Willie Cazals and Khaya.
The Sprint looks the most open of the four races, with seven locals - including international Group One winners Lucky Nine and Sterling City - taking on Group One winners from Australia, Ireland, Japan and Singapore.
The Mile shapes as Able Friend's coronation as Hong Kong's best horse, but he faces top locals like Gold-Fun and Glorious Days as well as a four-strong Japanese contingent. However, 2012 winner Ambitious Dragon will not take his place after failing a vet test this morning.
And the Cup is the richest race ever to be run in Hong Kong, at HK$25 million. QE II quinella Designs On Rome and Military Attack take on veterans California Memory and Cirrus Des Aigles, while Japan's Archimedes looks the unknown factor.
In addition, there is a terrific undercard which may shed some light on top-class racing in Hong Kong for years to come.
Alan Aitken, Michael Cox and Andrew Hawkins will bring you the latest information from the track, including parade yard assessments, market moves and the tips and track trends live on Twitter with scmpRacingPost.
