Trainer not about to go out quietly as he scores win No 2
With only nine winners for all of 2011-12 season and his retirement under age restrictions to come at the end of 2012-13, trainer Andy Leung Ting-wah seems to have begun the term with real verve. Eight-year-old Daily Double (Alex Lai Hoi-wing) became the trainer's second victory for the season, winning the Class Five dirt sprint. Following Polygold's victory off a rating of 21 last Wednesday and again after Daily Double's victory, rated 18, the trainer declared both vastly superior horses to their current ratings. Gate one proves a blessing - now comes the tough part
Pegasus Supreme made it three straight wins - the common denominator among them being barrier one - although victory in the To Yuen Handicap came as somewhat of a surprise to jockey Zac Purton. "That's the first time in his career that he has run in the money off a rating of 58, when he gets to that rating he usually finds his mark a little bit," Purton said. "He had a little bit of improvement in him coming back to what I think is his preferred surface and got a soft run from barrier one. It is going to get a bit harder now for him." Purton felt the all-weather track should be where Pegasus Supreme should stay when he jumps back to Class Three. Michael Cox
Australian makes themost of his three rides
Tim Clark had an early mark from Sha Tin after just three races, but managed to go home with something to show for it after winning the opener on Caga Spirit. Clark had won first up on Richard Gibson's Class Fiver, but Caga Spirit relished a solid speed to come from last to an impressive win again and took himself back up a grade. "He gets keen, so from barrier 14 the plan was to go straight out the back and hope he switched off but the fast speed really helped him," Clark said. With a winner in the bank already, Clark proceeded to pick up cheques for third and then fourth with Maelstrom and Duo Glory in the next two races before his day was finished by 2pm. Alan Aitken
