Fownes' gelding maintains last-start victors' trend

Winners came either inside or outside at the draw and the middle was off, so Blossom Daily was able to put back-to-back victories together from a favourable one alley. Seven last-start winners won again and the Caspar Fownes-trained Blossom Daily was one of those and one of two wins for Vincent Ho Chak-yiu, who also took a share of the dead-heat in race eight. Oddly, yesterday's results saw four wins from gate one, five from high draws and nothing from the centre. "The sting out of the ground helped and it's nice for him to draw a gate like that, possie up and get the soft run he did. He's done his job with two wins this season," Fownes said. Alan Aitken

Apprentice Lui bonding well with finicky five-year-old

Ten-pound claiming apprentice Dicky Lui Cheuk-yin and finicky five-year-old King Of Reason have an agreement and it seems to be working out nicely for both of them. After scoring two wins from his first 21 starts, the Ricky Yiu Poon-fai-trained King Of Reason has turned up to win his last two for Lui, who is attached to the Yiu stable. "I always ride him every morning in trackwork because none of the other riders in the stable want to get on him," said Lui. "He is a problem in the mornings and wants to fight you, but I let him do what he wants to do and he is easier to manage that way. We get on well." It was Lui's fourth win in Hong Kong, with three of them coming in the final race of the day. Alan Aitken

Hall to monitor five-year-old's weight before making next move

Punters following form horses were rewarded yesterday, with seven of the 10 winners last-start victors. Solar Great (Brett Prebble) kicked-off the trend in the Chevalier Construction Handicap (race three) over 1,200m with another solid display, winning by 1¾ lengths. Trainer David Hall will now monitor Solar Great's weight with a view to starting the five-year-old in two weeks on International Day. "Because he isn't a big, gross horse that doesn't carry a lot of weight, we have to keep an eye on him," Hall said. "He is handling things alright at the moment, and if he continues to do so, then in two weeks will be fine, we'll see what he tells us." Michael Cox
