Blow for Hong Kong Vase as Dandino and Galileo Rock withdrawn
The HK$15 million Longines Hong Kong Vase has been reduced to 12 runners with the withdrawals on Saturday of Dandino and Galileo Rock through injury but trainer Ed Dunlop has confirmed that Red Cadeaux is in top condition.
The Melbourne Cup runner-up did not appear at Friday’s trackwork session, generating a rumour that he too was in trouble after Dandino and Galileo Rock had already come out.
“No, he’s fine. It was always our intention to give him a quiet day today,” said Dunlop.
Dandino was reported with a “soft tissue injury” to his right front leg, while Galileo Rock’s left front leg injury was described in the same terms.
“Dandino had some minor swelling late yesterday and that obviously became more of a concern today,” said Jockey Club executive director of racing Bill Nader.
“Soft tissue” is a term which can include ligament or tendon injuries, and the Post understands Dandino’s issue is with his suspensory ligament.
