Ricky Yiu Poon-fai-trained Faster More kept himself on notice as a coming winner when he found trouble in the Class Four mile, again, and the three-year-old International Sale Griffin is a winner in waiting if he can stay clear of interference in races.

Behind Luger, in what looked a sterling form race at the time and that was confirmed on Sunday, Faster More was the one directly behind Art Of Success when that horse failed to corner and caused problems for those following. Faster More ran fifth, almost five lengths behind Fantastic Kaka but value for a much closer margin.

On Sunday, Faster More bounded right at the start and collided heavily with Great Stories, but that was far from the end of things. He got very little in the way of clear room down the home straight and would have troubled the winner, Fantastic Kaka, but for it. Untroubled by the step to 1,600m, he presents like 1,800m won't be a worry either.

On a star studded programme with coming and future big race winners filling the Stewards' Cup and the Classic Mile, there was certainly nothing wrong with many of the performances by John Moore's big names like Military Attack and Dominant.

But Moore-trained Ashkiyr also came of age in the last race, swooping from last along the fence to win against the tempo. There was no fluke about the win, with the advantages of the race belonging to those on speed and, to win, Ashkir had to produce a final 400m sectional bettered on the day by only stablemates Military Attack and Kabayan and in shorter races.

At the end of even a slowly-run 1,800m, it was a big sprint and there will be better races within Ashkiyr's compass, no matter that trainer John Moore rightly played down his abilities as short of Group One standard.

Moore indicated the Group Three Centenary Vase (1,800m) as the next target on February 2, versus stablemates Business As Usual and Same World. Put simply, Ashkiyr is a superior animal to Business As Usual, who will have only two pounds less, and Same World will need to have plenty to go his way to beat Ashkiyr giving him the 17 pounds that their ratings will require.
