Multivictory produced a career-best performance to win at Happy Valley on Wednesday night and looks assured of making his presence felt in Class Two, but there were two more blackbook performances behind the four-year-old.

The addition of blinkers and a return to a Happy Valley sprint, where he had the chance to settle off the pace and run at the speed in the final 300m, brought the best from Multivictory and he is assembling a nice record with four wins from 12 starts now.

But there were other eye-catching performances in the same race, with I'm In Charge making a nice local debut and the former Australian three-year-old, Brilliant Shine, putting his credentials on the table for the first time.

Not that Brilliant Shine's first three efforts have been disgraceful but Wednesday night's effort for fourth was in a whole new league.

Brilliant Shine raced twice as a two-year-old in Sydney, winning at Rosehill over 1,350m at his second attempt, and that distance step is going to be the key - he is by no means a short-course sprinter, being by top-quality middle-distance horse Guillotine, and he has it all ahead of him as his distances are stretched beyond the mere 1,200m at Happy Valley.

He rattled to the line in the final stages to be beaten just over two lengths and it will surprise if he isn't competitive in something over a little further next time.

For I'm In Charge, there were no flashing finishes and no slick sectional times, just a lightly raced gelding having his first local outing and looking in need of the race.

Neil Callan used I'm In Charge's good gate speed to park him handily and issue a challenge in the straight at the right time. The gelding was one-paced, grinding to the line for fifth, but should be much sharper as a fitter animal next time and he is going win sooner rather than later in Class Three.

I'm In Charge looks capable on any surface but, if Caspar Fownes presents him on the all-weather, bear in mind his impressive win at his only run in Victoria came on a synthetic surface.
